CROSSOVER WITH INDIANA JONES OMG YOU KNOW IT WOULD BE AWESOME.

And now, for another rousing edition of "Look At All the Crap Emily Bought!" I ended up NOT going to Comic City today after all, because there's a bigger one in August, and it's a lot of time and money and hassle just for some mediocre porn that I already have too much of anyway. Plus, the group that was going wanted to see Juno afterwards, which was all hell no. But I promised [info]rkold that I'd send her package today, and hey, I was already dressed, so I went down to Kyoto Station. In case you're wondering, Kyoto Station is where the central post office is, which is open all day on Sunday, and there's also a big craft store there, and I needed to buy some snaps for my h.Naoto skirt. (That's right, bitches, I said h.Naoto.) And the easiest way to get from the subway to the post office to the craft store without getting soaked because yay, rainy season, is to use the underground mall. And I was weak. But most of it was stuff I really did need. I got some socks and a couple calculators and a necklace stand at the 3 coin shop, where everything is ¥300. Of course, that's not including tax, so it's actually impossible to buy anything with 3 coins, but whatever. Then I went looking for the shoe store I had seen earlier, because they had Toppers, and I really REALLY needed a new pair of sneakers. But I was distracted on the way by a really cute blouse. >.> It was a little expensive, and I probably shouldn't have bought it, but it actually fit, and it's SO Japanese. So it can be my token Japanese girly shirt. I just need to find the right thing to layer it with. Then I found the shoe store, and they were cute and fit well and were actually not that expensive considering what shoes in Japan usually go for, and considering how hard it is to find shoes here that you can actually wear all day without wanting to shoot yourself, so I got them. And then I thought I was done, but a display of folding fans caught my eye. Of course the one I liked was the ¥3000 one in a display of ¥1000 ones, but it was really nice, and I really needed one, so I got it anyway. I was also tempted to get the Disney's Belle perfume that store had, but I didn't. XD The End. Until next week, when the sale at Black Peace Now starts. >_>;;
This shopping trip was brought to you by the numbers 7 and 11, which is the only place I can get cash on weekends. *fang*

But yes, I saw Indiana Jones yesterday! *fangirl* It was far from perfect; spoilers )

Back on the topic of doujinshi, last weekend I went with Ilona and [info]nightflight to a Phoenix Wright doujin and cosplay event. It was small, but fun. There were lots of good cosplayers, including a cute-as-a-button Apollo, a freaking amazing 6-years-ago Mia, a perfect Judge, and a Jean Armstrong, lololol. There was also a raffle, and Ilona won a pair of Gavinners or whatever the Japanese name of the band is guitar picks, which she gave to me. And if your birthday was in June, you got a bag of Godot's special blend coffee. As for doujinshi, there wasn't much for pairings that I like, but I got two Gavincest, one when they were younger, which I can fully endorse, and one just because it's a whole lot of really well-drawn cat-ear porn. Ironically enough, after explaining to my cohorts how Klavier and Apollo just didn't have that "spark" in the game, they sparked in my own mind, so I think I'm an official fan of the pairing now. ^^

Long sentences are long. Also rainy season sucks, even though it looks like we got off easy this year. Also, I want to punch American Guy in the face, but that's an entry for another time.

Oh, and I uploaded my old Yami no Matsuei music video to youtube. Validate me, plz.

still not an update

bad idea
>.<;;;;;;;;;;; I am officially not allowed to buy anything fandom-related for at least a year. *dead* Thanks to [info]rkold, I now own a doujinshi of the U.S. screwing England. Except I didn't check the cover for the pr0n warning, so they don't actually screw. But they do make out on a couch. DFHkjsdrubglieu I don't even particularly like doujinshi; whyyyyyy is it so addictive? ;-;

[edit] Oh right, because it has Atobe bribing Momo to steal Tezuka's uniform, and then Atobe wears Tezuka's pants on his head. How silly of me.
doumo arigatou Mr. Roboto
Happy Birthday, [info]nightflight! I hope you have a great day~ ♥

Man, Straightener puts on one effing KICK-ASS concert. And Nanba Hatch is a really nice venue. There was no opening act, which was good, because that meant I was able to get back to Kyoto before the last subway. There also wasn't anything in the way of set design, but the lighting was so freakin' amazing. Especially at the end of "March" when they had these bright white lights shining from behind the band into the audience and they kept getting brighter and brighter until it hurt to look at the band~

I wasn't able to get too close to the stage, but from where I was, I had a really good view of both the band and the crowd in front of the stage. I think I like that better than being down in the crowd. I was also standing right behind two guys who weren't into jumping up and down, so it was really lucky for me. ^^ (Is that proper English? God, I can't even tell anymore.)

In addition to the band being just so damn good, the bassist really gets into performing, like there's honestly nothing else he would rather be doing than playing on that stage. It was really fun to watch him.

As for merch, I got a tour t-shirt, the tour towel, a wristband, and a bright pink keychain with the Straightener dog on it. The keychain is for my bike, since it's a happy keychain, and I have a happy yellow bike. (My bike is also named Ken-chan because Ken-chan is a happy name.)

I really want to see Straightener again. This concert was sold out, but since I got a pre-sale ticket, I don't know how fast the tickets went. I hope I'll be able to get tickets next time, too. Now if only I can get into the Bump of Chicken concert~~~ >o<

Rudy's bringin' da bling
I can see I'm going to have to set a limit on one Rilakkuma purchase per visit to Kiddyland. This time, it was a case for my DS. Next time, lunchbox? (Of course, this limit will not apply to the special Rilakkuma event in January.) I'm going to have serious cute crap withdrawal when I leave Japan. (Not that that will be any time soon.) On the other hand, I bought 4 cds today; one was a mini-album and the rest were 25% off, and it still came to almost $70. But at least Japan has cds I want.

Oh yeah, I finished uploading my road trip photos to my flickr page, so check it out.

I can has blatherings about Asian Kung-fu Generation? )

I’m hoping that this string of good things, particularly situations which seem bad but turn out well, applies to the JLPT, too. I did really badly on the first two sections, but much better than I expected on the last section, which is worth half the test. So there is a very slight possibility that I may have passed, but I won’t find out until March or so. :x

This post has been brought to you by the letters A, K, and G, and the fact that I have no classes today. \o/

Super Comic City: Mecca for fangirls

  • Sep. 3rd, 2007 at 5:05 PM
still I'm with you
OR: How many women can fit in a train car?

OR: Good God, I don’t even collect doujinshi; why on earth did I spend this much money??

x_x I never knew it was possible for so much doujinshi to exist. My arm will never recover.

But! That’s okay, because not only have I made my pilgrimage to one of Japan’s largest fandom events, as every fangirl should, but I made some awesome finds. Like the BEST ATOZUKA DOUJIN EVER, SRSLY.

AND SUPERNATURAL DOUJINSHI LOL WUT.

And.

Wait for it.

SUOH X NOKORU DOUJINSHI YES I AM SERIOUS MY ENTIRE LIFE IS VALIDATED NOW. >o< Yes, I am going to become one of “those” people and stalk this circle to every event they go to, because omg, Suoh x Nokoru doujinshi. This makes me so happy.

Kansai Super Comic City total haul:

Code Geass
3 Lelouch x Suzaku (2 for [info]rkold, 1 which I bought on a whim to resell for huge profit)
1 some other guy x Suzaku (for [info]rkold)

CCD
4 Suoh x Nokoru (i.e. everything they had)

Supernatural
5 Sam x Dean (but why no Dean x Sam? T_T I thought the Japanese got over the height rule already!)

original BL
2 Nekota Yonezou (Yamada D) original stories

Prince of Tennis
1 St. Rudolph gag book (sadly, the only Fujicest to be found was in novel form)
3 AtoZuka

Fullmetal Alchemist
1 Roy x Ed / Al x Ed / other!Al x Ed anthology
1 Elric brothers fan

There was so much awesome art everywhere~ I wanted to buy more (there was one 4-komi in an Ichigo x Ishida doujin that was so >o<!) but I had to watch my money, and there was also the thing about not being physically able to carry it all. Next time, I’ll be smart like the J-fen and bring an empty suitcase with me. And hopefully my plan to spend hundreds of dollars on doujinshi and then sell them for twice what I paid when I’m done reading them will work. XD;

And now, it is time to break in my new scanner. :3

back in black
I decided to go to Wal-Mart after work. In the sale aisle, they had Easter eggs with Princess Jasmine on them. It's like, let's try to offend as many people as possible!

But anyway, I got to play a demo of Pokémon Diamond, which was a little lame, 'cause it was super short and all it lets you do is battle a couple of youngsters. I also downloaded the demo of Disney Meteos, which is super addictive. That one's going on my wish list. This little kid was watching me play it with a mixture of supreme awe and jealousy, which would have been cute, except why the hell are people bringing their kids (three of them, two under 7) to Wal-Mart at 1:30 in the freaking morning???? I also got a cute little carrying case for Kaz, which I've been eyeing since even before I got him. (Kaz is my DS, btw. Full name: KAZ 2Y5. Why? Because he's black and shiny, and because DS stands for Dean/Sam, of course! See icon if you're confused.)

But the main find was in the DVD bargain bin: Short Circuit! If my popcorn maker wasn't dirty, I'd have myself a cheesy '80s movie mini-marathon right now!

And yes, I did remember to buy sunscreen and a new pedometer, which was my reason for going in the first place.
one phone call
Best t-shirt ever? :o

I saw a big flock of robins today~~

It was snowing at the time, but never mind that.

I bought new dishes today. I probably shouldn't have, because I already have a set. But that set is Fugly with a capital F, and Bed, Bath, and Beyond was selling these at $20 below MSRP, and I had a 20% off coupon on top of that. And look at how pretty! I've really got to cut down on my spending, though. With the living room actually starting to look pretty good, it's put me into designer mode, and I have to keep reminding myself that this is the worst time to be loading up on stuff.

Also, McDonald's, it is March. That means you are supposed to be selling shamrock shakes. Wtf, you fail. Also, it's been how many years? Fix the damn typos on your cups and bags already.

Wal-Mart revelations

milk does a body good
:O They make clear duct tape now! It is both A) awesome, and B) what's holding my computer desk together. ^^U Also, the My Little Pony "Ponyville" sets? Fugliest things ever.

In bad news, they pushed back the release of The Cinematics' album to next month, but in good news, they switched the New Haven show to a Boston show! They added a Providence show too, but I can't go to that since it's on a weeknight. ;-; But the new schedule will make it a lot easier to go to the Montreal show, if I decide to do that. ^^

I got a free sofa yesterday, which is yay, but it will clash horribly with that beautiful butterfly cabinet I saw at Target the other day. (It looks like it came straight out of Loveless, and I want it~) Also, someone at work *may* be giving me a TV, but that's not for sure yet.

And I have a crapload of stuff to do before Friday, so I had better get going.
Patriots are love
-_______-; My tummy is feeling better, but now I've got a cold. Stupid body. *stabs*

And damn Amazon.com. I happened to hit on a day when their discount roulette for Supernatural S1 was on 45%, so I had to buy it. The problem is, they've found me out, so every time I visit their site, they keep suggesting all these gay romance novels that you just can't find in bookstores! Some of them are absolutely ridiculous, like this, or this one (what is that in his pants anyway, a canteloupe?), but some actually look really good. I, um, got one about cowboys and one about pirates and one about knights and wizards. >_> Well, the last one I'd been planning to get for a while, since I'd already heard it was really good, and was just waiting for it to come out in paperback.

Football party today at work~

it's here!!!!!

I was in the middle of getting dressed for the company party today when Mr. Postman stopped by with my package!!! (They actually tried to deliver it yesterday but no one was home, one day shipping from Japan, wut.) I didn't have time to open it before the party, but as soon as they let us out, I ripped that sucker open and put the cd in the car.

Impressions:

#1 They've completely given up all pretense that Prince of Tennis is a shounen series.
#2 Oishi's first line completely melted me. Chb;vkjsher Kondou's voice is amazing. Oishi had better be getting his own album in April. And this album had better have a) another Golden Pair duet, and b) a REAL Tezuka/Oishi duet, because that is just necessary and Kimi wo Sagashiteta just doesn't cut it, no offense to Taka-san and taking Tezuka out for drunk karaoke. But seriously, Okiayu and Kondou, singing together? I nearly orgasm just thinking about it.
#3 「ちょっと待ってくれよ、英二」Yes, I was giggling insanely in the middle of traffic. And they're like, singing each other's names and stuff. Yes. OMG. Fangirl.
#4 There is no possible way "Song For Us" can NOT be construed as a romantic ballad.

ALSO! My STANCE PUNKS cds came with a completly unexpected tin! Probably because Bubblegum Viking just came out and I got a first pressing, which I may have noticed if I'd read the webpage more closely. I love it! It's silver with the flaming skull logo on it! I have no idea what to put in it!

And yaaaaaay, CCD box set! The artwork for discs 5 & 6 is highly disturbing, though. o.O I'm trying to tell myself that I don't like the cover for discs 1 & 2 either, since I hate Suoh/Nagisa, but they both look so cute, it's hard. Anyway, the important part is chibi omake! Which I don't have time to watch now because I have to go do last minute Christmas shopping. x_x

WHY DON'T I HAVE ANY MORE SUPERNATURAL TO WATCH OH GOD HELP ME

I typed cod instead of God at first. That would have been funny.

Hey, [info]regisjr! Guess what I saw at Borders today! ANIMANIACS VOL. 1 ON DVD!!!!! Also scored a copy of America (The Book) for $8.

new Golden Pair single, what?

x__x I just spent a shitload of money at CDJapan.....

The main thing was the CCD DVD box set. Don't ask me to rationalize that purchase. I know it's not the world's best anime, but I NEED IT SO SHUT UP. :P At least the exchange rate's more favorable now than it was when it was first released.

Then, since I'd already decided I was getting that, I was checking to see if they perchance had the Fujicest pull charm that [info]rkold showed me because it is SO FREAKING ADORABLE AND I WANT IT AND [info]sailorstarsun, IF YOU SEE THEM WHILE YOU'RE IN JAPAN, PLEEEASE BUY ME ONE OR TWO OR SEVEN I WILL PAY YOU BACK YOU KNOW I'M GOOD FOR IT. >o< Uh, anyway, they didn't have that, but hello Golden Pair single being released on the 20th? How did I miss that?? By completely avoiding fandom, I know. Like there's any way in hell I'm not scooping that up and sleeping with it under my pillow at night. So that went in the cart, too. And I figured that since I was already hemmorhaging money, I might as well get the two Stance Punks albums I don't have, since they don't yet have a big enough fanbase that their stuff can be stoled on teh intarwebz. Plus, it's my duty to transliterate their lyrics, or something.

And I didn't even order the FMA calendar I wanted, but since those have to ship separately anyway, I figure I'll order it once the points from this order are applied to my account. Yay, discount!

All the critters are out today. I saw a raccoon, two possum, a kitty, four or five monarch butterflies, and yet another yellowjacket trying to make love to my hair. I don't know what it is with them and my hair, but this has been going on all summer. I'm surprised I haven't gotten stung.

I was down by Borders today, so I decided to stop in for a book I'd heard about. They didn't have the book, so I bought $100 worth of Japanese textbooks instead. x_x Well, one of them is a kanji dictionary, and those are always expensive. I'd been using Yuuta's built-in character palette to look up kanji, but that's really slow and frustrating, even if it is free. So yay for Kodansha Kanji Learner's Dictionary in paperback. I also finally found a book on basic grammar that MAKES SENSE, and also got a book just about particles and a kanji workbook.

Then I went to Old Navy, and there was so much stuff that I wanted that I didn't get to try it all on before I had to go to physical therapy. I got 3 shirts for $20 though, so that's not bad.

;__; It's fall, so that means spending a whole lot of money on Sei-chan. $600 for insurance, $400 to have the door fixed, then inspection, during which they're probably going to tell me I need new tires, new brake pads, and to change the transmission fluid. x_____x And yearly registration. He needs new windshield wipers before winter, too. I think detailing is going to wait until spring, though. *says goodbye to money* He's been happier lately, though, now that I can afford the 91 octane gas again. Well, it wasn't so much a matter of affording it, as a matter of principle. I refuse to pay $3+ for a gallon of gas, and so far I haven't had to. I think the highest I had to pay was $2.97. When prices spiked a year ago, I got lucky because I filled up the day before Katrina hit, and I can get 3 weeks out of a tank if I don't do any long trips. It's pretty sad though, when I see a station advertising $2.20 a gallon and think, "Wow, prices are really going down!" Five years ago, $1.50 was considered completely outrageous. Oh well, what can you do?

So ends my thrilling and extremely interesting entry. XD
